Known as one of the most residential cities in the Inland Empire, Corona, California, got its name from the Spanish word for ?crown?. With an average annual population growth of just over 36 percent, Corona is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state.

Corona, California, is located in Riverside County approximately 45 miles southeast of Los Angeles and 95 miles northwest of San Diego. It is situated directly south of Norco and Riverside, southeast of Chino Hills and Yorba Linda, northeast of the Santa Ana Mountains and the Cleveland National Forest, and unincorporated Riverside County along the remainder of the border. This city has a current population of about 168,000 and covers an area of just over 39 square miles. Over the years the city has attracted a large population of young, well-educated professionals and families and is known for being ethnically diverse. The city boasts a wealth of amenities including 394 acres of parks that feature sports fields, courts, and an outdoor pool.

  • Downtown/North Main — Here you?ll find offices and apartment buildings as well as one of two Metrolink stations in Corona.
  • North Corona — This upper-middle-class neighborhood was primarily built after 1990 and is known for being safe and well-maintained.
  • Corona Sur — This is the newest part of the city with most homes being built in the early 2000s. Some of the city?s best public schools are located here.
  • Central Corona — This is the city?s oldest neighborhood and most of the houses date to around 1910.
  • Dos Lagos — This neighborhood features newer homes, a large golf course, and high-end apartments.
  • Eagle Glen — Located in the southern part of the city, this neighborhood is also home to a golf course and many of the schools are California Distinguished Schools.

Corona history

Originally known as South Riverside, Corona was founded in 1886 during the height of the citrus boom in Southern California and was once called the ?Lemon Capital of the World?. The city has a unique layout – a grid enclosed by Grand Boulevard, a circular drive. The city was established by the South Riverside Land and Water Company and became part of Riverside County in 1893. It was renamed ?Corona? in 1896 to reflect the layout of its streets. Corona has seen its fair share of celebrity residents over the years, including Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, who owned a ranch in North Corona. Today, Corona is known as the ?Gateway to the Inland Empire? and has moved from being a mostly agricultural community to now being a major suburb of Los Angeles. It?s home to several headquarters for major companies such as Fender guitars, Monster Beverage, and Saleen, a high-performance sports car manufacturer.

Corona amenities

With its year-round warm weather and abundance of parks, Corona is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts. Tom?s Farm is a fun destination for the kids, with a small zoo, horse rides, and live music. Skull Canyon is another popular destination. Situated in the Estelle Mountain Nature Reserve, you can spend the day zip lining or simply enjoying the local landscape.

If you need a place to relax, then be sure to visit the Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa. With 17 pools, a mud bath, a grotto, and sauna and steam rooms, you can spend an entire day blissed out. On the flip side, if you need some excitement, then head to Pole Position Raceway where you can enjoy the adrenaline rush of indoor go-karting.

Corona also has great shopping opportunities. Dos Lagos is a shopping center that features more than 60 stores, restaurants, an amphitheater, and a cinema. You can also enjoy two scenic lakes with a bamboo bridge. Golf enthusiasts will love the Dos Lagos golf course, which features an 18-hole championship course designed by Matthew E. Dye.

Students in Corona are served by the Corona-Norco Unified School District, which includes five high schools, five middles schools, and 28 elementary schools. Private schools in Corona include St. Edward Catholic School y Crossroads Christian School.
