This time last year we were fast approaching the first lockdown which closed the Lido for most of the Spring and Summer. This year we are working towards a gradual opening and if all goes to plan we could be back to normal by midsummer. Our first step will be to open the swimming pool on the 29th March. This will have to be under COVID secure conditions which means to begin with it will only be available to our Swimming members. As restrictions ease we look forward to welcoming everyone back to enjoy the pool, spa, bar and restaurant.
Our staff are still furloughed so we are not currently able to answer any calls or emails. We will let you know when we are back to answer your queries.

Sabe aquele livro que parece ter sido lido por todo mundo, menos você? Era meu caso com Jane Eyre, sempre ouvi o quanto é uma personagem forte e à frente do seu tempo.
Desde a tenra idade ela precisou se bastar, pois órfã de pai e mãe, fora criada por uma tia até ser enviada à um orfanato onde adquire a formação de professora, aos dezoito anos decide ampliar os horizontes, e então, por meio de um anúncio de jornal arranja um emprego de preceptora na residência do Sr. Rochester, um homem com quase quarenta anos.
De uma maneira improvável Jane e seu patrão se apaixonam e iniciam uma relação tanto questionável, digo isso porque ele é uma pessoa contraditória e pouco confiável, além de ter um comportamento quase irresponsável, pois guarda um segredo que irá mudar a vida de todos que o cerca, durante esse período de flerte, digamos assim, permaneci com a sensação que ele a enganava. Fato é que eles fazem planos, mas o destino não se harmoniza com o desejo de ambos, e Jane acaba por viver outros infortúnios.
Charlotte Bronte criou uma narrativa, extremamente sedutora, mantém o leitor interessado (li cinquenta páginas sem perceber), os diálogos são relevantes e os personagens marcantes, mas o amor de Jane e Sr. Rochester não me convenceu, eu não fiquei contente por ela encontrar esse homem e nem por seu desenlace, além de um acontecimento quase no final do livro que me pareceu bem forçado. As escolhas dela em determinadas situações é outro ponto que me incomodou um pouco, mas não vejo isso como um demérito, pois faz parte do crescimento da personagem, além disso atribuo à sua pouca idade e vivência.
É uma leitura única, me perguntei o motivo de não ter lido antes, adorei Jane e a forma como ela sempre enfrentou seus problemas, e se você tem a mesma sensação que eu tinha, saiba que ela é mesmo uma personagem especial.

Here is another of my series of silk screens on ply..talking about wayfinding, placemaking and community. This one is called Lido and shows a retreating tide leaving a nice freshly filled pool of sun warmed water stranded on the plywood beach.
I’ve written a series of anecdotes which inspired these prints (hopefully an ongoing series). This one is about how a place can become part of your life-story through the memories it holds. I imagine a women in her seventies looking down at this place and remembering her parents there, her teenaged friends, her first lover, her children and her grandchildren…
If the beach is right tidal pools like this, are comparatively cheap to maintain and can be used for free by everyone.
When I was teenager holidaying in Devon we used to go to a beautiful deep rockpool which we called the diving pool, it could only be reached at low tide and was magical. I have never lived near a tidal lido but if you have I would love to hear your stories..
This print will be shown at my exhibition ‘Decorative Minimalist’ at Yorkshire Sculpture Park from 27th March until 27th June.. .

jubileepool is the largest sea water pool in the UK. It originally opened in 1935 and contains over 5 million litres of water. The triangular design is to cope when the storm roll in from the sea and the temperature is usually just 1 or 2 degrees Celsius above the temperature of the sea. 💧Fancy a dip? 💦
