An affluent community located south of the main body of the city of Newport Beach, Newport Coast was a separate census-designated place in Orange County until it was annexed into Newport Beach in 2001. With a population of around 10,000 people, the master-planned community was developed by Irvine Company. A private company headquartered in Newport Center, the Irvine company was responsible for the planning of the city of Irvine, which is home to around 250,000 people.
